7th June 2023, Mumbai: Wrestlers in India have made a strong demand from the government: the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief, Brij Bhushan. In response, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has extended an invitation to the wrestlers for talks once again. However, Brij Bhushan, denying all claims, has chosen not to comment on the meeting between the wrestlers and the sports minister.

Sakshi Malik, one of the prominent wrestlers, asserted that their protest is not coming to an end and they are keen to see what the government proposes. She emphasized their main demand for the arrest of WFI chief Brij Bhushan. Sakshi Malik stated, “We will consider the government’s proposal and discuss it with khap panchayat leaders. We will only accept a proposal that satisfies our demands.”

The wrestlers expressed their anticipation regarding the time and venue for an open meeting with the government. They expressed hope for a constructive solution and insisted on an open meeting, rather than one behind closed doors.

In a recent development, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has invited the wrestlers for talks once again, following an inconclusive meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah. Thakur took to Twitter, expressing the government’s willingness to discuss the wrestlers’ issues and extending the invitation.

On the other hand, Brij Bhushan, who is also a BJP leader, declined to comment on the meeting between the wrestlers and the sports minister, refraining from making any statements.
