During the Game Developers Conference, Adobe revealed two innovative AI-powered tools for their Substance 3D design software: Text to Texture and Generative Background. These capabilities revolutionize the design process by enabling artists to easily create photorealistic textures and design backgrounds within the Substance program.

The Substance 3D AI’s Power

Adobe is utilizing Firefly AI’s ability to bring new features to Substance 3D that will improve the creative workflows of artists. Adobe hopes to provide artists more tools to fulfill their concept within the Substance app without having to switch between platforms by utilizing AI technologies.

Text to Texture: Boosting Imagination with Easy Prompts

With just a few word prompts, users may create photorealistic or stylized textures for their projects with one of the recently added capabilities, word to Texture. Artists can refine a texture to meet their specific needs by entering a text prompt and receiving various variants of the texture. Artists may easily build materials for different items, such woven fabric or wooden surfaces, and fine-tune them to get the desired aesthetic with the Substance 3D Sampler program.

Demonstrating the Workflow: From Input to Output

In order to demonstrate how artists can create textures for various materials and objects, Adobe has released illustrative examples of the Text to Texture tool in use. Throughout the video, an artist uses the Text to Texture function to generate materials for a wooden object and a woven fabric. They then refine the materials in Substance 3D to get the desired outcome. Artists’ creative processes are streamlined by the smooth integration of AI-driven tools into the design workflow.

Generative Background: Crafting Immersive Environments with Ease

With the help of words, Artists can create visually appealing backgrounds for items with the second function, Generative Background. This tool allows artists to easily create backgrounds like “a modern bamboo table in a serene spa setting” or “a sunlit poolside table at dusk” by simply entering descriptive text prompts into the Substance 3D Stager application. In order to create the right atmosphere, artists can also alter the background’s aspect ratio, tone, lighting, color, and composition using the Stager tool.

Smooth Integration with Current Workflows

Although these capabilities don’t create 3D models; instead, they function in harmony with existing creative workflows to deliver significant acceleration without interfering. Generative technologies improve artists’ productivity and efficiency when they fit in smoothly with their current processes, as highlighted by Adobe’s Senior Director of 3D Product Marketing.

With the release of Substance 3D’s Text to Texture and Generative Background capabilities by Adobe, design technology has advanced significantly. With the Substance app, Adobe enables artists to effortlessly realize their thoughts by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI). These cutting-edge features open up new avenues for digital art and design while also streamlining the process.
