4 July 2023, Mumbai: Argentinian Goalkeeper Engages in Exciting Events during India Trip Argentinian goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, the reigning FIFA World Cup champion, arrived in Kolkata on Monday, adding to the city’s history of hosting renowned football personalities. Martinez’s heroic performance in the penalty shootout against France in December brought Argentina its first world championship in 36 years. This marks his first visit to India, following in the footsteps of legends like Pele, Maradona, and Cafu, who have graced Kolkata with their presence.
Amid strict security measures, the Golden Glove winner of the 2022 World Cup checked into a five-star hotel on EM Bypass, where he will be staying during his visit. Martinez’s presence in India is accompanied by a series of planned events over the next two days. At the airport, he received a warm welcome from Mohun Bagan officials and hundreds of Argentina fans waving the Albiceleste colors.
Expressing his excitement, Martinez said, “I’m feeling great. It’s a lovely country. I’m delighted to be here. I’m really excited. I promised I’m gonna come to India, so I’m here. It’s a place I always wanted to come.”During his time in Kolkata, the 30-year-old goalkeeper will engage in various activities. In the afternoon, he will participate in a program called ‘Tahader Katha,’ where he will interact with approximately 500 school children at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan. Later, he will visit the Mohun Bagan ground to honor 10 Bengal goalkeepers, including legends Bhaskar Ganguly and Hemanta Dora. An exhibition match between Mohun Bagan All Stars and Kolkata Police All Stars is also scheduled for the evening.
On the concluding day of his trip, Martinez will visit Sreebhumi Club in Lake Town for the ‘Paanch e Paanch’ program. He will have the opportunity to award the winners of the program and conduct a football clinic for youngsters at Santosh Mitra Square.

Born on September 2, 1992, he began his career playing for clubs like Independiente and Arsenal.
