Punjab Kings Win Big Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Break Their Streak

New Delhi (India) April 11:In an exciting match on Saturday, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) showcased their batting power, with half-centuries from Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, and captain Shreyas Iyer leading them to a remarkable victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
Chasing a daunting target of 220 runs at Mullanpur, PBKS not only secured the win but also snapped SRH's impressive four-game winning streak against them.

SRH's Openers Score 120 Runs

Sunrisers Hyderabad set a formidable target, scoring 219 runs for the loss of six wickets. They were supported by an explosive partnership of 120 runs between Abhishek Sharma, who scored 74 runs off just 28 balls, and Travis Head, who contributed 38 runs from 23 balls. Their momentum took a hit when both openers were dismissed in quick succession by Shashank Singh, which slowed down their innings.

Iyer's 69 Guides Easy Chase

In response, the Punjab Kings wasted no time in their chase. Priyansh Arya scored a quickfire 57 runs off 20 balls, while Prabhsimran Singh added a solid 51 runs off 25 deliveries. Captain Shreyas Iyer played a brilliant knock, remaining unbeaten at 69 runs off 33 balls, as PBKS reached their target with 6 wickets in hand and just 18.5 overs on the clock. With this victory, the Punjab Kings made history by becoming the first IPL team to successfully chase down 200-plus totals on ten occasions.

Captain Praises Powerplay Start

Shreyas Iyer, PBKS captain said, "Firstly I would like to say that we have got a phenomenal start, when you are chasing 220, you need such starts and the way they showed how to play powerplay, it was magnificent to watch. And it was pleasing to the eye, it was proper cricketing shots and they steadied the rhythm at the start and then it was kind of, I wouldn't say easy, but just to maintain that momentum, especially going in, I just said that I have to give myself a little bit of time in between and once I gauge the pace of the wicket, I'll be able to capitalise on it. And thankfully it worked out" after the win.
