Student Found Dead in IIT Kharagpur Hostel Room

IIT Kharagpur (West Bengal)[India] May 4: The calm Sunday morning at IIT Kharagpur turned dark when a civil engineering student was found dead inside his hostel room. His door was locked from inside, and no one had seen him come out for hours. A staff member raised an alarm after receiving a phone call from a woman who seemed worried. The student’s luggage was packed—he was supposed to go home that day.
Family Hopes Shattered Before Homecoming
The young boy, originally from Bihar, had told his family he would visit home soon. His packed bags showed he was ready. But fate had other plans. His family was shocked when police informed them. This wasn’t just any normal college day—it became a lifelong scar for a family that waited for their son’s return.
Call From Delhi Before The Incident
Before the incident, the student received a call from a woman who claimed to be from Delhi. The police believe she was the last person to talk to him. Her identity is not yet known as investigations are still happening. The call might hold answers to questions the authorities and the family are now asking.
Similar Cases Rising Across The Campus
This is not the first time something like this has happened at IIT Kharagpur. In January, a third-year student died in his room. In April, a final-year student did the same. This is the third case in just a few months. Many are now worried and are asking if enough is being done to help students on campus.
New Steps Taken But Still Not Enough
After the April case, the college began using barcodes outside hostel rooms. Students can scan them to talk to a counsellor. But even that couldn’t stop this tragedy. These efforts may be a start, but many believe more needs to be done. Behind every student’s smile might be a hidden story that no one sees.
