'I’m Just 15': Girl Apologises for Anti-Modi Remarks

A girl accused of making abusive and objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar has apologised in a video that is now going viral on social media.

As she says in the video, she made the comments after she felt the influence of other people at the protest.

"I came under the influence of some people at the protest and said many bad things against the Prime Minister," she said.

She also said it was her “first and last mistake” and asked for forgiveness from the country.

Girl says she is 15, FIR reportedly mentions different age

One of the details of the case has raised questions.

According to reports, the FIR identifies the accused girl as 25 years old. But in the apology video, she states that she is only 15 years old.

The authenticity of the viral video has not been independently verified.

In the video, she says:

"I apologise to the whole country. I am very ashamed. I can't look at myself. Please forgive me."

How the case reached Delhi Police?

The controversy started after a protest in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on 23 July, when the girl allegedly used abusive language against Modi.

A complaint about her remarks was made at Noida police station on Wednesday.

After receiving the complaint, Noida Police registered a Zero FIR and later transferred the case to Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi for further investigation.

PM Modi reacts to abusive remarks

Narendra Modi had spoken out on Friday and said that he was deeply hurt that abusive comments were made not only against him but also against his late mother.

He was disappointed that young girls had used such language but also urged people to forgive what he called "misguided children."

In another video message posted on Instagram, PM Modi said that while many people were angry, society should guide young people instead of just condemning them.

He said abusive language has no place in a civilised society and urged everyone to help such youngsters choose the right path.

Congress attacks PM Modi over his response

The Congress criticised PM Modi's remarks after his video message.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pawan Khera said that although people were expecting an apology from the Prime Minister, he instead chose to “forgive the country."

Sharing PM Modi's video on X, Khera wrote in Hindi:

"The country is asking him to apologise, but he has forgiven the country."

His post has triggered a fresh political debate on social media.
