Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] June 30: At 9:20 am, a powerful explosion rocked Sigachi Industries in Telangana’s Sangareddy district, killing 12 workers and injuring over 30. Around 90 employees were on duty at the time. Some bodies were thrown far due to the impact, while others were charred. The building collapsed. Alos, the nearby structures were damaged. Fire and rescue teams quickly reached the area. While many workers were brought out, a few are still missing, and efforts are on to clear the damaged parts of the building.

What Experts Say About The Blast

The disaster occurred during a drying or handling process, as per officials. Industrial experts believe pressure build-up may have caused the blast. The entire handling unit and surrounding equipment were destroyed. Labour Minister Gaddam Vivek confirmed that 12 of the injured are in ICU with serious burn injuries. He also said that records were completely lost in the fire, making rescue identification harder.

Rescue Efforts And Factory Shutdown

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Telangana Fire Services, and HYDRAA joined the rescue operations. Sangareddy Collector and Police Chief supervised the work. Patancheru police confirmed 11 fire tenders were deployed. Sigachi Industries paused all activity for 90 days to assess damage and restore machinery. The Hyderabad plant contributes a major part of their production of Microcrystalline Cellulose.

Families In Distress, Demanding Answers

Tension rose outside the plant as family members tried to enter, desperate for news of their loved ones. Many workers were unreachable, adding to panic. Police struggled to calm grieving families, some of whom demanded access to the site. Officials reported that only three bodies were identifiable, and others will need DNA testing. Residents nearby were evacuated due to smoke-related breathing issues.

Leaders React, Relief Announced

Prime Minister Modi expressed deep sorrow and announced ₹2 lakh compensation for the deceased’s families and ₹50,000 for the injured. Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and CM Revanth Reddy conveyed condolences and promised all medical help. CM Revanth Reddy assured that the state will support the affected families. A detailed investigation into the cause of the explosion has been ordered by the administration.
