IPL Mega Auction in Abu Dhabi: Cameron Green Shatters Overseas Record as Uncapped Indian Youngsters Strike Big Deals
The full 77 slots were booked, comprising 29 foreign players, from approximately 350 players from whom the teams could choose. A total amount of INR 215.45 crore was spent by the 10 teams at the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi.
New Delhi (India) December 16: The IPL teams had a busy day in Abu Dhabi, buying up players galore. In all, 77 players were signed, with 29 of those being foreigners. The ten IPL franchises spent a total of Rs 215.45 crore to acquire these players.
Green Becomes Costliest Overseas Star in IPL History
Australian Green has been labeled as the most expensive foreign player in the IPL's history. In effect, Green's offer is a global record amount for any foreign player in any franchise competition. During the tussle between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings for the services of the Australian, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned team was able to bring the all-rounder home for a whopping Rs 25.20 crore.
The process of finalizing Green's bid took a little over ten minutes, and he is now only behind Rishabh Pant (INR 27 crore) and Shreyas Iyer (INR 26.75 crore) in the list of the highest-paid IPL players.
Due to the maximum salary cap imposed by the IPL on overseas players at mini-auctions, Green, however, will be given only INR 18 crore. The bid amount over and above INR 18 crore (INR 7.2 crore) will be with the BCCI for player welfare purposes.
CSK Splurge Big on Uncapped Indian Talent
On the day of the auction, the focus was on the Indian uncapped players who managed to steal the show. The 20-year-old left-arm spinning allrounder Prashant Veer and the 19-year-old wicketkeeper Kartik Sharma were the two players whom Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a jaw-dropping bid with a price of INR 14.2 crore each to buy. Fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, Auqib Nabi was also a big earner as he was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 8.4 crore.
Late Bidding War Triggers Big-Money Overseas Signings
During the accelerated round towards the end of the auction, there were some big-money purchases. DC purchased the Sri Lankan batter Pathum Nissanka for INR 4 crore, GT got the West Indies allrounder Jason Holder for INR 7 crore, KKR acquired the Bangladesh quick Mustafizur Rahman for INR 9.2 crore, CSK took the legspinner Rahul Chahar for INR 5.2 crore, and LSG got the Australian wicketkeeper Josh Inglis for INR 8.6 crore.
