President Droupadi Murmu Calls Animals 'Jeevan Dhan' at IVRI Bareilly Convocation

Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 30: During the 11th convocation of IVRI, President Droupadi Murmu said animals are not just helpers but ‘jeevan dhan’—wealth of life. She reminded everyone how rural areas are losing domestic animals and how that affects farming. She also said soil is suffering because earthworms and natural helpers are disappearing. Her words connected deeply with farmers, scientists, and students present at the event.

Technology Can Heal What Nature Is Losing

The President praised the power of new tools like AI, genome editing, and big data in animal care. She said veterinary sciences must also use modern methods just like other fields. Institutions like IVRI must lead by making smart, low-cost solutions. She called for better nutrition, better treatment, and more research to protect animals from disease. Her speech gave a big push to India’s ‘One Health’ dream.

A Warning From Nature And A Lesson From Covid

President Murmu said the Covid-19 pandemic showed how human greed affects animals and nature. She called out the dangers of a consumption-focused culture. Citing the fall in vulture numbers due to chemical drugs, she praised scientists for banning harmful medicines. Her message was clear—when animals suffer, humans suffer too. She urged students to be the change India’s environment needs today.

Yogi Praises IVRI For Saving Cattle And People

UP CM Yogi Adityanath praised IVRI’s efforts in controlling lumpy skin disease in cattle. He shared that even his hometown Gaushala was affected, but the vaccine developed here saved many lives. He also reminded everyone that IVRI tested over 2 lakh Covid samples during the pandemic. The 136-year-old institute, he said, is a true life-saver, not only for animals but also for people.

Time To Serve The Voiceless And Learn From Groundwork

The convocation saw 576 students graduate and 24 medals awarded. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Governor Anandiben Patel highlighted how animal science boosts jobs. Patel recalled Gujarat’s Krishi Rath Yatra where farmers directly benefited from science. The President ended by urging students to rise to the challenge, serve the voiceless, and help India move towards better care for all living beings.
