Elon Musk Denies Starlink Use in Manipur Amid Device Seizures
Founder of SpaceX answers allegations of illegal Starlink operations in India.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] December 18 : During operations meant to reduce terrorist activity, security personnel in Manipur have captured Starlink-branded equipment including a satellite antenna and router. Along with high-level shield, these gadgets begged questions about their use for safe communication in the northeastern state surprised by conflict.
Musk Details Starlink's Situation
Reacting to claims of Starlink's presence in Manipur, Elon Musk said, "This is incorrect. Over India, starlink satellite beams are shut off." He confirmed that Starlink services are not available here. According to Musk's comment, the held gadgets were either trafficked from outside India or non-functional.
Unauthorized Use Causes Security Issues
Starlink devices seen in Manipur draw attention to possible security concerns. Rebel organizations find such satellite-based communication tools interesting as they allow them to avoid local internet restrictions. Given Starlink's inactive state in India, authorities believe the equipment could have been illegally smuggled.
Regulating Obstacles for Starlink in India
Operating under SpaceX, Starlink has been violently pursuing legal permission to introduce its offerings into India. But its activities have been postponed under examination on possible security concerns and adherence to Indian laws. Using Starlink devices is still illegal unless the required rights are approved.
Global Difficulties with Satellite Technology
Such events in Manipur are a result of a more general problem with the illegal spread of satellite communication technologies. Other war areas, including Myanmar, where rebel forces evidently have Starlink devices, have had similar incidents recorded. These events highlight the challenge of managing the spread of advanced communication technologies across boundaries.
Complexities of Advanced Communication Control
The Starlink equipment capture in Manipur begs important issues concerning the control and application of satellite-based technologies. Although SpaceX is waiting permission to formally operate in India, events like these highlight the need of keeping modern communication tools under close observation to stop their usage in delicate areas. The case also emphasizes the more general requirement of more strict worldwide control to handle illegal usage of satellite technologies.
