Government demotes Pankaj Dwivedi, ED of the Union Bank to General Manager
Pankaj Dwivedi, the Executive Director of Union Bank of India, has been demoted by the government to General Manager.

New Delhi (India) June 25: Pankaj Dwivedi's appointment as Union Bank executive director is cancelled by the Centre without explanation after it was revealed that a sexual harassment chargesheet was still pending. He was asked to return to his previous position as General Manager of Punjab & Sind Bank by the government.
The Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance said, “The central government hereby cancels the appointment of Pankaj Dwivedi as Executive Director, Union Bank of India, made vide Department of Financial Services' notification dated March 27, 2024” in an official statement.
The administration has made this decision as a case against Dwivedi is still ongoing in the Delhi High Court.The court noted that his appointment as the Executive Director of Union Bank of India was illegal since he did not have the necessary vigilance clearance.
Union Bank said, “We wish to inform you that the Central Government … has cancelled the appointment of Shri Pankaj Dwivedi as Executive Director of Union Bank of India and consequently he ceases to be the Executive Director of the Bank with immediate effect” regarding the matter.

The PIL was submitted by a woman who accused Dwivedi of sexual harassment said that the appointment was illegal because vigilance clearance was not obtained. In 2018, she had charged Dwivedi of corruption and sexual harassment.
In August 2024, a bench led by then-Acting Chief Justice Manmohan sent notice of the PIL to Dwivedi, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and the Centre. The bench also questioned how the appointment was done without the vigilance authority's approval.
