New Delhi (India) December 6: Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, announced in his speech today (December 6, 2025) that the State Government intends to erect boundaries on either side of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s statues as measures to protect the statues from destruction.

Protective Measures for Ambedkar Statues to Prevent Vandalism

The CM reiterated that the State Government has the responsibility to protect Ambedkar’s legacy and that it will implement Ambedkar’s vision of Justice, Equality and Brotherhood. In protecting the legacy of Ambedkar, the CM noted that many Ambedkar statues have already suffered vandalism.

“To prevent such incidents, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to build protective boundary walls and install canopies over all statues of Babasaheb. His legacy must be preserved with dignity,” he said.

Minimum Wage Guarantee for Municipal and Sanitation Workers Soon

The CM addressed a suggestion made by Lalji Nirmal (President of Ambedkar Mahasabha) regarding providing workers who operate local & state county service departments with honest & appropriate remuneration commensurate with what they do. In his remarks, the CM stated that there will soon be a guaranteed minimum wage for municipal, contracted and sanitation workers (iv employee’s) within one or two months.

“We have already set up a dedicated corporation. In the next month or two, the government will ensure minimum honorarium payments to all Class IV, contract and sanitation workers,” he said.

Expedited ‘Zero Poverty Mission’ to Support Poor and Scheduled Families

He further explained that the ‘Zero Poverty Mission’ currently underway in Uttar Pradesh is being expedited to guarantee that no family in Uttar Pradesh will be denied benefits by the State Government. There has been significant progress in identifying poor families in Caste System, Scheduled Class and Extremely Low Income families.

Many of those identified have received ration cards, pension cards or other state or federal welfare benefits. The CM added, those families that do not have housing or medical (Ayushman) coverage will receive housing and health insurance coverage of Rs 5 Lakh each.

Ensuring Welfare Benefits Reach Dalits and Backward Communities

He emphasized that the double-engine government has made sure that each welfare plan or scheme is received by its appropriate intended recipient without prejudice.

“Whether it is scholarships, housing schemes, pensions, social security, or health insurance—every benefit is reaching the ground. No Dalit, deprived, or backward citizen is being left behind. Ownership rights through housing documents, construction of toilets, distribution of ration, and access to modern healthcare are all reflections of the equality Babasaheb envisioned,” he said.

New Initiatives to Promote Equality Including Scholarships and Infrastructure

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has said that new initiatives that honor nationally recognized figures include the development of Panchateerthas (artistic sites) and broadening scholarship opportunities for SC / ST / OBC / Dalit students, as well as continuing in attempts by the State Government to provide and connect each slum, Dalit community, or SC / ST habitation with basic service and physical infrastructure.
