They started beating up a food stall owner. That food stall owner is Babulal Khimaji Chaudhary. His mistake? He was not speaking in Marathi. When asked about the official rule, Chaudhary said “All languages,” which angered the group. They hit him on the face, head and neck. Then they threatened to burn his stall. The video spread quickly, sparking public outrage and police action.

CM Fadnavis Stands Firm: Language Can’t Be A Weapon

For those who don't know, Devendra Fadnavis is the chief Minister of Maharashtra. CM Fadnavis firmly addressed the issue. He addressed it in a media interaction. He said that the pride in marathi language is fine but violence over language will not be tolerated in the state. He also made it clear that this kind of hooliganism does not represent Maharashtra. CM Fadnavis stressed again that attacking people is against ethics. And that too for language differences, it is against Indian values. He also warned that strict legal steps would be taken in such matters.

Legal Action Taken: FIR Filed Against Accused

The Maharashtra police registered an FIR against the attackers and assured that action has been taken. Fadnavis supported the move and warned that anyone repeating such acts in the name of Marathi or any language would face consequences. He added that no language spoken in India should be disrespected. The chief minister also highlighted that embracing English while insulting Hindi or regional languages reflects confused thinking.

People Protest, Shops Shut: Citizens React With Silence

In Mira Road and nearby areas, several traders shut their shops to silently protest the rising fear over language politics. Many citizens expressed concern over how such incidents divide communities. Instead of creating unity, these acts build fear. Leaders and social activists joined in condemning the attack and called for a respectful space where all Indian languages are treated equally.

Pride And Peace Can Coexist: But Not Through Threats

He pointed out that respecting the Marathi language is great. But it does not give anyone the right to insult or dislike any other languages. He said that Maharashtra has always welcomed people from every state. Regardless of the background, everyone live here without any fear. Language should not be turned into a reason for violence goes against that spirit. He said that the state must ensure safety, peace, and dignity for every citizen, regardless of the tongue they speak at a food stall or shop counter.
