New Delhi (India) December 2: Uzma Khan visited her brother, the former prime minister, at Adiala Jail on Tuesday evening, despite some evidence of previous threats made by party members to hold protests throughout Rawalpindi.

She attended the meeting in response to widespread speculation about death due to torture allegedly committed in custody of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).

Uzma Khan’s Jail Visit Dispels Death Rumors, Highlights Mental Torture Claims

Uzma Khan finished her meeting by telling that Imran Khan was isolated in a cell alone and he had been tortured. Uzma broke down any current speculation that her brother died, and confirmed that he was alive.

"Imran Khan said he has no contact with anyone, nor has he met anyone. He said they are mentally torturing him. He is angry and he said Asim Munir is responsible for everything that is happening," she said.

Prior to this meeting, it was widely reported that the authorities at Adiala Jail permitted family members/friends of Imran to meet him, on the condition that no statements be made to the media, though Uzma denied this was the case.

Adiala Jail Under High Security Amid PTI Protests and Section 144 Enforcement

On Tuesday a meeting was held at Adiala Jail as well as increased security around the Jail with its area on the streets near and adjoining the location still on high alert. Five new checkpoints were established throughout the surrounding roadways.

The area around the Jail has been locked down for more than a week as supporters of Imran Khan, the cricketer-turned-politician, and his sisters protested and sit-ins.

Section 144, which bans the gathering of four or more people in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, had already been passed by the Punjab Government. Police Station officers from eight Police Stations, together with higher-ranking officers of the Police Department have been deployed outside of Adiala Jail.

Thousands of supporters marched to protest the government of Pakistan, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for almost two years now.

Government Denies Health Concerns; Family and Supporters Demand Transparency

Zulfi Bukhari, a former close adviser to Imran, said no one had spoken to or seen him since 4 November and no other information was available on his health or whereabouts. Bukhari stated that no explanation was given for not permitting close friends or family members of Imran to meet with him.

The Jail officials and the Government have stated that Imran Khan does not pose a health risk at this time; therefore, any news regarding Imran's health is unfounded.
