Army says ‘no expiry date’ to India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement; No DGMO meetings today

New Delhi (India) May 18: The ceasefire agreement that was reached between the two countries during the May 12 DGMO-level meeting will remain in force.

The Indian Army officials have said, “No DGMO talks are scheduled today. As far as, a continuation of a break in hostilities, as decided in the DGMO interaction of 12 May is concerned, there is no expiry date to it."

“Talks between DGMOs (of India and Pakistan) were held at 5 pm, May 12, 2025. Issues related to continuing the commitment that both sides must not fire a single shot or initiate any aggressive and inimical action against each other were discussed."

DGMO Maj Gen Kashif Abdullah of Pakistan and Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai of India spoke over a hotline on May 12.

The hotline conversation between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan focused on how to stop further military escalation on the borders. Two days after the two sides reached a complete ceasefire on May 10 after a week of heavy cross-border fighting, the 45-minute discussion took place.

On Saturday night, May 10, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri declared that India and Pakistan have agreed to immediately stop all air, sea, and land-based military operations and firings.

But hours after the two countries reached an agreement, the Pakistani army broke it at several points in Jammu and Kashmir, including Srinagar, as well as in parts of Punjab and Rajasthan, along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC).

The Indian Armed Forces successfully reacted and strongly warned Pakistan against violating the ceasefire in the future.

The agreement comes as border tensions have risen after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, earlier this month that killed 26 lives. India responded by launching "Operation Sindoor," which targeted several terror-related locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
