New Delhi (India) September 16: Four districts in Uttarakhand—Dehradun, Champawat, Bageshwar, and Nainital are under a heavy rain alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Authorities warn that because the rivers and streams are overflowing. The authorities advise people to stay vigilant and refrain from going to low-lying regions.

Cloudburst due to Intense Rainfall

According to an official, a cloudburst is caused by heavy rainfall in Dehradun early on Tuesday morning. It has destroyed houses and damaged a bridge. It has also washed away cars and shops.

The district government has shifted the impacted individuals to safer locations after the late-night cloudburst.

Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman says, "Damage have been reported from Sahastradhara and Mal Devta in Dehradun, and also from Mussoorie. Two to three people are said to be missing in Dehradun. A death has been reported from Mussoorie and is being verified.”

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kumkum Joshi, District Magistrate Savin Bansal, and other authorities hurried to the scene. They have assessed the damage on the locations. At the location, authorities from the NDRF, SDRF, PWD and other agencies are using bulldozers for rescue work.

I am constantly in touch with the local administration in this regard and am personally monitoring the situation.”

The Chief Minister's office claims that Dhami informed Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the situation in Dehradun. The Centre has promised more support.

Due to the intense rain and cloudburst, the District Magistrate has ordered that all Dehradun schools remain closed.

SDRF rescues over 200 stranded students amid flooding
