29th September 2023, Mumbai: Kangana Ranaut and Raghava Lawrence’s horror comedy, ‘Chandramukhi 2,’ got off to a decent start at the box office on its opening day, raking in approximately ₹7.5 crore across all languages, according to early estimates reported. The film, directed by P Vasu, is a sequel to the 2005 blockbuster ‘Chandramukhi,’ which starred Rajinikanth and Jyothika in lead roles.

‘Chandramukhi 2’ witnessed varying levels of occupancy

‘Chandramukhi 2’ witnessed varying levels of occupancy in different languages on its opening day. In Tamil, it recorded an occupancy rate of 51.90 percent, while in Telugu and Hindi, the rates were 42.65 percent and 12.77 percent, respectively. The film’s release coincided with the holiday for Eid-e-Milad an-Nabi and Ganpati Visarjan in parts of India. This sequel to ‘Chandramukhi’ follows the story of a family moving into a mansion and being warned to avoid the south block, known as Chandramukhi’s residence. Kangana Ranaut plays a dancer in the king’s court, known for her beauty and dance skills, while Raghava Lawrence portrays King Vettaiyan Raja in another world, serving as the backdrop for the mansion’s story.

‘Chandramukhi 2’ was postponed to September 28

The film’s trailer generated significant excitement among fans, and Raghava Lawrence even sought the blessings of Rajinikanth, touching the veteran actor’s feet ahead of the film’s release. He also congratulated Rajinikanth on the success of ‘Jailer.’ Originally slated for release on September 15, ‘Chandramukhi 2’ was postponed to September 28 due to technical issues. The movie features music by M. M. Keeravani and includes notable songs like ‘Thori Bori,’ which showcases the family that moves into the mansion, Kangana’s dance number ‘Swagathaanjali,’ and Raghava Lawrence’s dance number ‘Moruniye,’ among others, all composed by Keeravani.

‘Chandramukhi 2’ marks another addition to the horror comedy genre in Indian cinema and has garnered attention for its intriguing storyline and performances by Kangana Ranaut and Raghava Lawrence.
