Hanuman Jayanti in Jahangirpuri Gets Fresh Hope from Delhi HC
Spirit of Devotion Wins Over Fear in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri

For over a decade, a peaceful Hanuman Jayanti procession moved through Jahangirpuri. People of the area, young and old, joined in with dhols, flags, and chanting. But since 2019, permissions started getting denied. The 2022 clash between two groups added more fear. Since then, organisers were repeatedly turned away despite their efforts to celebrate with peace.
A Judge's View Brings New Light
Justice Sachin Datta of the Delhi High Court took up the matter. The petitioner shared how the yatra had been a tradition since 2010. The court noted that one unfortunate incident in 2022 cannot stop a cultural and religious event forever. The judge advised the police to consider the request and take a timely decision based on current conditions, not past fear.
Clashes in 2022 Changed the Route of Devotion
Back in April 2022, violence broke out in Jahangirpuri during the Hanuman Jayanti procession. It left many police officers and one civilian hurt. That day changed how authorities viewed such events. Since then, the word “safety” became stronger than “celebration”. This made the Delhi Police avoid giving permissions, even for limited routes, fearing repeat problems.
A New Plea and a Possible Solution
The petitioner, who had been leading the procession since 2010, didn’t give up. He asked the court for permission to organise a smaller procession on a different path. The High Court directed the Delhi Police to study this request carefully. It also reminded them to take help from senior officials and give a decision before April 12.
Faith Walks Hand in Hand with Law and Order
The High Court said that police must make proper safety plans. The idea is not to ignore what happened before, but to create a future where both faith and safety go together. Festivals like Hanuman Jayanti remind people of togetherness. If peace is maintained and the police are ready, then even tense places like Jahangirpuri can smile again during celebrations.
