Heavy Rains, Thunderstorms, Trees uprooted and waterlogging in Delhi; relief from heatwave
Residents of Delhi-NCR have been advised to stay indoors due to the India Meteorological Department's prediction of severe thunderstorms and strong winds for the city.

New Delhi (India) June 15: There is moderate to heavy rainfall in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds of 80 to 100 kmph. Residents have been warned by the India Meteorological Department to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
The IMD predicts that until June 19, the national capital will see mostly cloudy sky with very little to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, dust storms, and lightning. Thunderstorms are likely to produce strong winds.
This comes after Delhi was placed under a red alert which is a severe warning level due to an intense heat wave. Temperatures increased four degrees above the seasonal normal, with daytime highs reaching between 41°C and 45°C and minimums reaching 31°C.
The weather department said, “Moderate to intense spell of rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning, squally winds 80-100 kmph is going on over Delhi and NCR Stay indoors and avoid travel unless necessary” on social media platform X.
A warning issued at 5:05 AM says, “Hail storm/Thunderstorm with moderate to heavy rainfall and lightning (60-100 Km/h gusty winds) is very likely to occur at Jind (Haryana). Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with light thunderstorm and lightning (50-80 Km/h gusty winds) is very likely to occur at isolated places of Delhi ( Deramandi), NCR ( Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh, Dadri) Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Narwana, Barwala, Sohana, Palwal, Nuh,Hansi (Haryana) Nazibabad, Bijnaur, Chandpur, Jahangirabad, Anupshahar, Shikarpur, Pahasu, Debai, Narora, Atrauli (U.P.) Bhiwari (Rajasthan).”
The IMD has also issued a warning stating, "Stay indoors and avoid travel unless necessary."
Safdarjung experienced two Thunderstorms and hailstorm activity between 0348 and 0350 IST and 0358 and 0400 IST. According to the IMD, gusty winds peaked at 104 kmph during the second squall and reached 82 kmph during the first.
As the National Capital had strong winds and a lot of rain on Saturday night, a mobile tower collapsed in Safdarjung Enclave. The incident did not result in any recorded casualties or injuries.
Images from Krishi Bhavan, Rafi Marg, and Udyog Bhawan provided relief from the heat as the national capital suffered from strong winds and heavy rain.
Early morning traffic was also hampered by the strong wind and rain, and some low-lying locations experienced waterlogging.
Aadrika Tayal
