Home Minister Amit Shah praises NC for bursting a global drug cartel

New Delhi (India) July 2: On Wednesday, July 2, 2025 Union Home Minister Amit Shah applauded the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and other law enforcement organisations for busting a global drug gang that was active in more than ten nations on four continents. Eight accused syndicate members have been detained so far. NCB's efforts have also resulted in crackdowns in Australia and the United States.

Amit Shah said, "Congratulations to NCB and all agencies on busting a global drug cartel. The probe set a stellar example of multi-agency coordination, resulting in 8 arrests and seizures of 5 consignments while triggering crackdowns in the US and Australia against the ring that operates across 4 continents and 10+ nations. Our agencies are constantly monitoring the sophisticated modes like crypto payments and anonymous drop shippers used by these gangs. Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is determined to see off every drug cartel and protect our youth, no matter where they operate from” on social media platform X.

The NCB caught a syndicate that smuggled restricted medications via cryptocurrencies, drop-shipping methods, and encrypted digital platforms.

On May 25, the agency acted on a tip and stopped over the vehicle close to Mandi House. They confiscated 3.70 kg of tramadol tablets from the two people inside who were both B. Pharma graduates from a reputable private institution in Noida. They allegedly admitted to running a vendor profile on a significant Indian business-to-business platform, from which they supplied prescription pills to customers in Australia, Europe, and the United States.

According to reports, the syndicate employed anonymous international drop shippers to avoid detection, relied on bitcoin payments, PayPal and Western Union and worked on encrypted communication platforms like Telegram. Two more Indian citizens from Delhi and Jaipur who worked in supply-side and logistics activities were arrested as a result of digital forensics.

The authorities discovered that the operators avoided legal consequences by coordinating with other drop-shippers and never transported within their home nations. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been the main focus of the entire effort. In order to take further action, the NCB is collaborating with the UAE authorities.
