8 July 2023, Mumbai: Renowned Indian actor Anupam Kher has recently revealed that he will be essaying the role of the eminent poet, philosopher, and essayist Rabindranath Tagore in his 538th film. Taking to Instagram on Friday, Anupam delightedly announced the news to his fans and followers, accompanied by his first look as the revered poet.

In the captivating black and white photo, Anupam Kher was dressed in an outfit reminiscent of Rabindranath Tagore’s signature attire. Sporting white hair and a long beard, he effortlessly captured the essence of the literary giant. With a serious expression, Anupam’s gaze fixed upon the floor as the instrumental version of Rabindranath Tagore’s iconic song “Sokhi, Bhabona Kahare Bole” played in the background, further adding to the atmosphere.

Accompanying the post, Anupam Kher shared a heartfelt note, captioning it, “Delighted to portray #Gurudev #RabindranathTagore in my 538th project. Will reveal the details in due course. Ye mere saubhagya hai ki mujhe gurudev ko parde par saakaar karne ka saubhagya prapt hua hai. Jald hi is film ki adhik jankari apke sath sanjha karunga” (It is my good fortune that I have got the privilege of embodying Gurudev on screen! Soon, I will share more information about this film with you).

The news of Anupam Kher taking on the role of Rabindranath Tagore has received an overwhelming response from fans and industry peers alike. Actor Parvin Dabas expressed his awe with a comment saying, “Wow!” Another fan remarked, “Omg sir, you actually look like him,” while another person stated, “And I am very much sure that nobody can perform it better than you. The next-gen will remember Tagore sab by your face.” The post garnered numerous appreciative comments, with one person exclaiming, “Oh! My God, I couldn’t recognize you, Sir… Superb,” and an Instagram user writing, “Wow…that’s great…all the best, sir.”

Rabindranath Tagore, often referred to as Gurudev, Kabiguru, and Biswakabi, holds a special place in the hearts of Indians and is fondly known as ‘the Bard of Bengal.’ He was the first Indian to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. Tagore’s contributions include writing the national anthems of India and Bangladesh, as well as composing numerous renowned songs known as Rabindra Sangeet.

Aside from his upcoming role as Rabindranath Tagore, Anupam Kher is set to grace the silver screen in various other projects. Fans can anticipate his appearance in director Anurag Basu’s forthcoming anthology film, “Metro In Dino,” which also features Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, and Neena Gupta in pivotal roles. The film is scheduled for release on March 29, 2024.

Furthermore, Anupam Kher will be seen in two other highly anticipated films, namely “The Vaccine War” and “Emergency.” “The Vaccine War,” directed by Vivek Agnihotri, revolves around India’s contributions to the global race for a Covid-19 vaccine during the pandemic. “Emergency,” directed by Kangana Ranaut, delves into the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
