Indian Employee's Post on Strict Toilet Break Rules Sparks Outrage at Work

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] February 18: An Indian employee posted notes from their supervisors warning employees for taking longer breaks—even to use the restroom—online. An employee posted screenshots from an office group on Reddit, where the manager scolded the staff for taking longer than the allowed one-hour breaks.

"Boss thrashed co-worker for taking 25 minutes extra break," the note read. The manager appears in the screenshots telling the staff that each employee's daily limit of 60 minutes for breaks should be decreased by the amount of breaks they take.

Count your breaks

"You must take the next break [bearing in mind the total] 60 minutes - (minus) the previous break when you guys take a ten to fifteen minute rest. No more than 60 minutes should be spent on breaks in a single day. The manager said, "I hope that's alright."

One employee was then fined by the boss for taking 27 minutes more than the required 60-hour break. They clarified that the total exceeds 60 minutes because they are required to notify the supervisors of every break, even using the toilet.

How much of a break did you take yesterday? "Count and inform me," replied the manager

Another worker asked the management to give them an extra ten minutes so they could use the loo. "No, official break is 60 minutes. That's all. Let's stick to that. I can't change that. Bye, no further messages," the manager replied. that since they are asked to inform the manager about every break, even for going to the toilet, the total crosses 60 minutes.

‘Back to school’

Many social media users were upset by the post and attacked the management for micromanaging; some even compared the setup to a school. "The company's obsession with a rigid break time is beyond what I can understand. What do they hope this will do? One of them said, "What are people supposed to do for the next six or five hours if they finish their work for the day in three and a half hours?"

"This seems like you are back to school where one has to take permission to go to rest rooms. Even schools seem better now,"  another wrote

"The boss is micromanaging things making working conditions even worse. Generally people at such senior positions have so much work, they don’t care if you take some extra break," According to a third user
