India-China Ties Show Improvement

Both sides hailed the sound development of India-China bilateral relations since they last met in Tianjin in August 2025 and agreed on the necessity of dealing with relations strategically and from a long-term perspective.

PM Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping noted the progress in people-to-people relations and called for the promotion of cultural exchanges, business ties and greater mobility between the two nations. 

Reiterating the importance of stable and forward-looking relations between two large Asian countries, it is stated that dialogues are a sign of strong efforts between the two nations to enhance dialogue and cooperation.

Modi Calls Border Peace Essential

During the bilateral talks, PM Modi pressed "peace and tranquility" as a sine qua non of relations between the two nations.

"Prime Minister emphasised that peace and tranquillity in the border areas remain an essential basis for the continued development of bilateral relations. He underlined the need for both sides to observe existing agreements and understandings on border-related issues. The two leaders expressed commitment to a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question proceeding from the political perspective of their overall bilateral relations and the long-term interests of the two peoples," the statement said.

Xi Stresses Shared Global Responsibilities

Chinese President Xi Jinping has told Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the bilateral meeting that the leadership in Beijing is dealing with India strategically and with a long term vision of mutual interaction.

Xi Jinping said, "China has always viewed and developed its relations with India from a strategic and long-term perspective. Although our two countries have different national conditions, we can fully learn from each other's strengths, support one another, achieve success together, and pursue common development.”

He added, "In the face of the profound changes unseen in a century and the unprecedented pandemic situation, China and India, as the world's two most populous countries and important members of the Global South, shoulder significant responsibilities. Both sides should keep the future of humanity in mind and care for the well-being of our peoples, working together to play the role of major countries. We should advocate an equal and orderly multipolar world, not privatise our own interests, and contribute more positive energy to world peace, stability, development, and prosperity.”

BRICS Flags West Asia Tensions

Earlier, all BRICS nations also adopted the 'New Delhi Declaration-2026', expressing concern over the tensions in West Asia by calling for "utmost restraint" while further stating to avoid actions that will worsen the issue.

“We urge to ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations in their entirety and interconnectedness, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the States. We encourage increasing efforts, through dialogue and diplomacy, towards a long-term understanding that will contribute to lasting peace, security and stability in the region. We stress the need to work together to maintain smooth flow of global trade, supply chains and energy, in accordance with applicable international law, ” the declaration said.
