Palestine Urges India for Medical Aid as Health System Fails

In an official statement, the embassy said thousands of lives are at risk and called on India to step forward with humanitarian support.

Call for Help Under India's Aarogya Maitri Initiative

The embassy specifically requested assistance through India's Aarogya Maitri initiative, which provides medical aid to countries affected by humanitarian crises and natural disasters.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement of the initiative, the embassy urged India to provide emergency medical supplies and healthcare support to people affected by the crisis.

Gaza Health System Near Breaking Point

According to the embassy, the healthcare situation in Gaza has reached a critical stage. Citing World Health Organization (WHO) data, it said only 19 of Gaza's 36 hospitals remain partially operational.

The embassy reported severe shortages of medicines, surgical equipment, dialysis supplies, blood units, insulin, antibiotics, and fuel needed to run hospital generators. Thousands of patients are also waiting for urgent medical evacuation and treatment.

Growing Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The embassy highlighted worsening living conditions in Gaza, including a lack of clean water, waste accumulation, and the spread of diseases.

It also warned about increasing cases of skin diseases, infections, and other health risks caused by poor sanitation. Children, elderly people, and patients with weak immune systems are said to be among the most vulnerable.

The statement added that many children are suffering from malnutrition and are in need of mental health and psychological support.

Healthcare Challenges Extend Beyond Gaza

The embassy said the healthcare crisis is also affecting the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Financial difficulties and shortages of public funding have reduced the ability of hospitals to provide medical services.

According to the statement, thousands of surgeries have been postponed this year because of shortages in medicines, medical supplies, and operational resources.

Palestine Seeks $100 Million in Medical Support

In its appeal, the Palestinian Embassy called on India, humanitarian organisations, medical institutions, and global partners to provide life-saving medicines and healthcare supplies worth $100 million.

The embassy said urgent action is needed to protect civilian lives and ensure that patients continue to receive essential medical treatment during the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
