Mary Kom And Husband Karung Onkholer Are Getting Divorced After 20 Years of Marriage

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] April 8: India’s boxing legend MC Mary Kom’s marriage is in trouble with reports suggesting the boxing legend and her husband, Karung Onkholer (known as Onler), are living separately. According to a Hindustan Times report, sources have confirmed that while they have been apart for some time, there have been no official divorce proceedings yet.
The couple Is said to have drifted apart following Onler’s failed attempt to win a seat in the 2022 Manipur assembly elections. According to close sources, Mary Kom moved to Faridabad with their four children, while Onler has been staying in Delhi with some family members.
The tension reportedly grew after Onler’s electoral defeat, and it is believed that Mary was unhappy about the significant financial losses (around INR 2–3 crores) incurred during the campaign. It was Mary’s decision for Onler to contest, even though he had expressed concerns about the volatile political situation in Manipur. After the defeat, their marital issues escalated, leading to Mary relocating with the children.
Reports suggest that no official statement has been made by the couple, but Mary Kom might be involved in another relationship. There are speculation that the former World Champion has been linked to another boxer’s husband.
Additionally, Mary Kom’s political involvement, particularly her association with the BJP, has added another layer to the speculation about her personal life. Her role in politics and the recent strain in her marriage have both made headlines, raising questions about her future in both her personal and professional spheres.
According to reports, their love story began in 2000 in Delhi, when Onler, who was a student at Delhi University’s Law Faculty, helped Mary when she lost her luggage en route a competition. They married in 2005, had twin sons in 2007, another son in 2013. In 2018, they adopted a daughter because Mary always wanted to have a daughter.
Onler, a footballer, chose to put his career on hold so that he could raise the kids and take care of the house. Mary, a passionate boxer, is one of the most iconic pugilists in the country, with six world championships and an Olympics bronze to her name. She has often called Onler her “pillar of strength”. Mary and Onler’s love inspired the 2014 film Mary Kom starring Priyanka Chopra.
