Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] April 8: Former Indian cricketer Kedar Jadhav embarked on a political journey, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of Maharashtra minister and state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Tuesday, April 8, in Mumbai.

Jadhav announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in June 2024 at the age of 39 after having played for India from 2014 to 2020. He now begins a new journey in his life.

“I bow down to Chhatrapati Shivaji. Under (PM, Narendra) Modi ji and (Maharashtra) CM (Devendra) Fadnavis. The BJP is doing politics of development. With this said, I under Bawankule enter and join the BJP,” Jadhav said after joining the BJP.

Meanwhile, the state BJP chief Bawankule expressed happiness after the former Indian cricketer joined the party. “It’s a day of happiness for us. In all spheres of life, he has had an impact. I welcome him home. Besides him, several other people have also joined us from Hingoli and Nanded,” he said.

Notably, Jadhav made his debut for India in 2014 during an ODI match against Sri Lanka. He made his T20I debut in 2015. His last game in the Indian colours came in 2020 when he played in an ODI against New Zealand 2020 in Auckland.

During his six-year-long international career, Jadhav scored 1389 runs in 73 ODIs and 122 in nine T20Is. He also used to bowl occasionally with his uncanny bowling action. He took 27 wickets in 42 ODI innings he bowled in. He is a 2018 Asia Cup winner with the Indian team and has been part of the 2019 ODI World Cup squad, as well as the 2017 Champions Trophy team.

Jadhav played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), the now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. He won the IPL with CSK in 2018.

Jadhav announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in June 2024. “Thank you all for your love and support throughout my Career from 1500 hrs consider me as retired from all forms of cricket,” he wrote in a social media post while announcing his retirement.
