Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 17: This autumn, Mumbai will once again celebrate the spirit of Bengal as Palava City, Dombivli, gets ready to host the 11th Sarbojonin Durga Puja, organised by the Probashee Bengali Association (PBA).
The four-day festival is celebrated by the Bengali community living nearly 2,000 kilometres from their homeland. It has become a cultural highlight that combines devotion, art, and community.
This year’s thematic pandal, based on Delhi’s famous Lotus Temple, was carefully built by artisans from rural West Bengal. Their skill brings the splendour of Bengal’s festive traditions to the heart of Mumbai.
To elevate the festive atmosphere, the powerful beats of traditional “Dhak” drums will enchant attendees, with dhakis specially invited from Bengal. Devotees will also enjoy Mahaprasad, served in large quantities every year during the celebrations.
To help preserve India’s fading folk art, PBA will showcase a special performance of the traditional Chhou dance, highlighting Bengal’s unique cultural richness.
In addition to the celebrations, the association remains dedicated to its social responsibilities. This year, PBA will support Gharkul and acid attack survivors, emphasising the importance of kindness and community service alongside the festivities.
“Our Durga Puja has always been more than a festival; it is an experience that brings together devotion, culture, and social responsibility,” said Sukanta Ganguly, President, Probashee Bengali Association, Probashee Bengali Association. “We take pride in sharing a piece of Bengal in Mumbai while also advocating for important causes.”
With devotion, culture, and compassion intertwined, PBA’s Durga Puja in Palava City is set to be one of the most anticipated spiritual and cultural highlights of Mumbai’s Navaratri calendar.
