Cloudy Sky with Possible Evening Thunderstorms Predicted for Delhi-NCR

14 August 2023, Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates a mostly cloudy sky over Delhi-NCR on Independence Day, with a chance of “very light rain or thunderstorms” in the evening. As per the Met Office, temperatures are expected to reach a high of 34-36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will hover between 25-27 degrees Celsius. The forecast covers the entire national capital, encompassing regions such as New Delhi, East Delhi, Central Delhi, North Delhi, South and West Delhi, as well as the nearby NCR areas of Faridabad, Gurgaon, and Noida.

Precautionary Traffic Measures Ahead of Independence Day

Ahead of Independence Day, the Delhi traffic police have issued advisories outlining road closures, diversions, and limited vehicle movement for August 15. Notably, the police advise that several key roads will be closed for general traffic from 4 am to 11 am. These roads include Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail, Lothian Road from GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail, S.P. Mukherjee Marg from H.C. Sen Mark to Yamuna Bazar Chowk, Nishad Raj Marg from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg, and Esplanade Road with its Link Road to Netaji Subhash Marg. The Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT, and the Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover will also be temporarily closed. During this period, only vehicles with designated labels will be permitted on these roads.

Specific Routes and Bridges Affected

During the period of road closures, the old iron bridge and the Geeta Colony bridge leading to Shanti Van will be inaccessible. However, the DND-NH24 (NH9) – Yudhistir Setu – Signature bridge – Wazirabad bridge route will remain open to the public, providing access to the Ring road.

Goods Vehicle Restrictions

In light of the Independence Day celebrations, goods vehicles will be restricted from entering the area between Nizamuddin Khatta and Wazirabad Bridge from 12 a.m. on August 14 until 11 a.m. on August 15. This restriction aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and security during the festive period.
