PM Modi Declines Dinner with Donald Trump, But What Pulled Him to Odisha?

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India] June 20:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently shared that he politely declined a dinner invitation from US President Donald Trump. While attending the G7 Summit in Canada, Modi received a call from Trump asking him to stop by Washington for dinner. Modi said he responded kindly, saying he needed to visit Odisha instead. His choice surprised many but showed how he places national and cultural commitments above global invitations, even from a superpower like the United States.

Why Odisha Took Priority Over Washington

Modi explained to the public in Bhubaneswar that his heart was set on visiting the sacred land of Mahaprabhu Jagannath in Puri. He said, “Your love and devotion to Mahaprabhu brought me to this land.” This emotional connection made him choose Odisha over a formal meeting in Washington. The PM wanted to honour the spiritual roots of the state and attend celebrations marking the anniversary of the BJP-led state government.

The Power of Devotion and Symbolism

PM Modi's choice was more than a simple travel plan. It symbolised his dedication to Indian culture and spirituality. Refusing a powerful leader’s invite showed that no position or country is above the values one holds dear. It was also a strong signal to the people of Odisha that their traditions and beliefs are respected at the highest level of government. For many, it made Modi's visit feel deeply personal and respectful.

Political Address in Bhubaneswar

During his Odisha visit, Modi also used the stage to criticise the Congress for ignoring tribal regions. He said earlier governments kept these areas backward and called them the “red corridor.” He blamed them for using tribal people only for politics. Modi praised his government for unlocking the four gates of Jagannath Temple and its ‘Ratna Bhandar’. His words aimed to show how the BJP focuses on development and faith equally.

One Year of BJP Government in Odisha

Modi appreciated the work done by the BJP-led Odisha government in just one year. He said this anniversary is not just of a government, but of good governance and trust. He praised the efforts to fight corruption, improve public services, and build better infrastructure. According to him, this shows how much can be done with the right intentions. Odisha’s growth under BJP became the highlight of his speech and visit.
