New Delhi (India) October 19: In a suspected harassment and blackmail case, a 19-year-old student committed suicide at her home in Bagalur, Northeast Bengaluru on Friday.

According to a complaint filed by Abdul Nazeer, a civil contractor at Virajpet in Kodagu district, the Bagaluru police have registered an abetment of suicide case against Refaas who was Sana’s college senior and hailed from Thrissur in Kerala.

The victim, Sana Parveen is a second year BBA student at a private college. She was residing on rent with her friend.

Parents’ intervention and teachers’ caution failed to stop continued harassment

Sana had told the parents about Refaas. She asked them to stop him from allegedly harassing her. Her parents reported to the college teachers, who are said to have called Refaas and told him not to approach Sana. However, despite this the harassment continued forcing her to take the extreme step, Mr Nazeer alleged in his complaint.

Being unable to bear the pressure, Parveen took her own life by hanging herself in a room. No suicide note was found at the scene.

Police continue to search for and arrest Refaas. The police said, “The complainant stated that his daughter took her life because of the continued harassment by Rifas. He is said to have been harassing her to be in a relationship with him. The suspect is absconding.”

Engineering student arrested for raping senior inside Bengaluru private college campus

The assault had occurred on October 10 within the college campus and was reported after five days as the survivor -- a seventh semester student -- told her parents, police officials said.

The survivor met Jeevan on the lunch break to take some materials, the complaint read. He reportedly took her to the seventh floor near the architecture block and tried to kiss her.

The survivor, who was too shocked to approach the authorities at first, filed the complaint later on with help from her parents.
