India Demands Release Of 17 Indians From Iran, Appeals For Peace Amidst War

Due to the growing tension between Iran and Israel, the world is hearing the sounds of World War III. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar spoke on telephone with Israeli Foreign Minister Katz and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdullahyan on Sunday.

Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles on Israel late on Saturday night in response to the April 1 incident in which seven Iranian Revolutionary Guardsmen, including two generals, were killed in a suspicious Israeli airstrike on its embassy in Damascus.

Cargo ship seized by Iran

On Saturday, Iran’s military seized a cargo ship belonging to Israel near the Strait of Hormuz. There were 17 Indian crew members on board. India is in touch with Iran to ensure the release of Indians aboard the Portuguese-flagged vessel MSC Aries.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar on Sunday spoke to his Iranian counterpart Hussain Amir-Abdullahyan and demanded the release of the 17 Indian nationals aboard the Portuguese-flagged cargo ship. During the phone conversation, Jaishankar called for restraint and a return to the path of diplomacy to avoid escalating tensions in the context of Iran-Israel rivalry. Jaishankar said on ‘X’ that he has spoken to the foreign minister of Iran. The issue of release of 17 Indian crew members of MSC Aries has been raised.
