14th April 2023, Mumbai: In a significant development for the Indian mining industry, Odisha Stevedores Limited (OSL) has successfully exported gypsum from the Paradip port to Gujarat. This marks the first domestic export of gypsum, which is a mineral commonly used in construction and agriculture.

OSL, which is a leading provider of cargo handling services in the country, was entrusted with the task of handling the export of gypsum by the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), one of the largest fertilizer cooperatives in the country. The company successfully loaded 3,000 metric tonnes of gypsum onto a vessel at the Paradip port and transported it to the Gujarat port.

The successful handling of the first domestic export of gypsum is a significant milestone for the mining industry in India. Gypsum is an important mineral used in the production of cement and fertilizer, among other things, and its export has been restricted until now due to government regulations.

The export of gypsum is expected to boost the Indian mining industry and provide a much-needed boost to the country’s economy. The successful handling of this export by OSL is a testament to the company’s expertise and capabilities in the cargo handling industry.

Commenting on the successful export, the CEO of OSL, Mahimananda Mishra, said, “We are proud to have played a key role in the first domestic export of gypsum. This is a significant achievement for our company and the mining industry in India as a whole. We look forward to continuing to provide top-notch cargo handling services to our clients and contributing to the growth of the Indian economy.”

The successful handling of the gypsum export is also a testament to the capabilities of the Paradip port, which has emerged as one of the most important ports in the country in recent years. The port has been instrumental in facilitating the export of various minerals and commodities, and its modern facilities and infrastructure have made it an attractive option for exporters.

The IFFCO, which is one of the largest fertilizer cooperatives in the country, has also hailed the successful export of gypsum. The cooperative has been at the forefront of efforts to promote the use of gypsum in agriculture and has been working to increase its availability to farmers across the country.

The successful handling of the first domestic export of gypsum is a significant development for the Indian mining industry and is expected to pave the way for more such exports in the future. It is a testament to the expertise and capabilities of OSL and the modern facilities and infrastructure of the Paradip port. The mining industry in India is poised for significant growth in the coming years, and this development is a step in the right direction.
