10th June 2023, Mumbai: As users seek alternative platforms to Twitter that offer a more organized and controlled environment, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is developing a micro-blogging platform that aims to meet those needs. The upcoming platform will utilize Instagram’s account system to automatically populate user information, according to reports from The Verge. Meta is currently in talks with notable celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, the Dalai Lama, and DJ Slime, to become early users of this Twitter alternative.

The new app, which was initially referred to as Project 92 and is now known as ‘Threads,’ will be a standalone application based on Instagram. It will also integrate with ‘ActivityPub,’ a decentralized social media protocol, as stated in the report. This integration will theoretically allow users to transfer their accounts and followers to other apps that support ActivityPub, such as Mastodon.

Meta’s chief product officer, Chris Cox, shared that the company has been receiving feedback from creators and public figures who desire a platform that is well-managed and trustworthy for content distribution. Cox emphasized the importance of safety, ease of use, and reliability in the new app, ensuring that creators have a stable platform to build and expand their audiences.

During a company widde meeting, Cox revealed that the upcoming app will serve as Meta’s response to Twitter. The company’s goal is to provide a platform that offers a controlled environment and addresses the concerns expressed by users. They aim to create a space where creators and public figures feel confident and supported.

In early March, Meta confirmed its plans to explore the development of a decentralized social network for sharing text updates, as reported by Platformer. This move aligns with Meta’s vision to expand its offerings beyond the traditional social media landscape and explore innovative alternatives. Please note that while the above text is written in my own words, it may still contain similar phrases or ideas to existing articles.
