Telangana (India) December 30 : The Telangana Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution urging the Indian government to award the Bharat Ratna, the nation’s highest civilian honor, on former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. 

Praised as a visionary economist and statesman, Singh's leadership was prominent in transforming India’s economy and strengthening its global presence. The resolution reflects Telangana's appreciation of his prevailing contributions to the nation's growth and development, strengthening his legacy as an extraordinary leader.

Tributes from Political Leaders

During the session, leaders across party lines paid valuable tributes to Singh. Chief Minister Reddy stated, "The people of Telangana will remain indebted to Manmohan Singh as much as they are to Sonia Gandhi for the creation of Telangana state."

BRS working president K.T Rama Rao described Singh as "the silent architect of modern India" and supported the resolution for the Bharat Ratna. He also proposed a memorial for former Prime Minister P.V Narasimha Rao in New Delhi.

Manmohan Singh's Legacy

Manmohan Singh, aged 92 at the time of his passing, was instrumental in liberalizing India's economy in the early 1990s as Finance Minister and later served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. His tenure is marked by significant economic improvements and policies aimed at complete growth.

Singh's leadership during the UPA government saw the introduction of landmark legislations such as the Employment Guarantee Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGA), the Right to Information Act, and the Land Acquisition Act.

The Telangana Assembly's resolution reflects the state's recognition of Manmohan Singh's lasting impact on India's economic landscape and its appreciation for his role in the state's formation. The unanimous support across party lines highlights the respect and gratefulness for Singh's contributions to the nation.
