Trump Set to Announce TikTok Decision, Executive Order to Delay US Ban

Social media application TikTok tweeted on Sunday that it’s working to resume operations in the United States and expressed gratitude to President-elect Donald Trump for giving ‘necessary clarity and assurance’.

This statement was made on the same the application put its operations on hold in the United States due to the Biden dispensation’s ban order.

According to our service providers TikTok is currently working to have its service restored.” We want to express gratitude to President Trump for introducing sufficient clarity and guarantees to our service providers indicating that they will not suffer any consequences for offering TikTok to 171 million Americans and helping over seven million small companies succeed,” the application published on x.

Meng said it would seek a more permanent solution with Trump that will allow TikTok to remain in the US.

Which is a good thing for the First Amendment and a bad thing for arbitrary censorship. We will negotiate with the President for a sustainable solution that makes TikTok continue operating in the United States,” the statement continued.

The social media application ceased operation in the US after Congress passed a law, signed by President Joe Biden last year, requiring TikTok’s Chinese owner to sell its American business to an approved buyer within nine months. It also prohibited Internet hosting services and mobile application marketplaces from offering access to TikTok for users in America.

Shortly before the ban was put in place, Trump showed his desire to grant TikTok another 90 days to complete the sales deal, which could save the app from being banned in the United States.

In his interview with NBC News, Trump stated that while he had made no final decision, he was considering providing TikTok a one-month stay after he assumed office on Monday.

Further, The New York Times informed Mekhatar Shou Zi Chew that the chief executive of TikTok has been invited to the presidential inauguration ceremony where he will be sitting in ‘a place of honor’.

Trump says ‘don’t let TikTok remain a mystery,’ readies to sign an exec order presenting a delay of the US ban on Monday.

He further said that he would like to see that in a joint venture, the US should own 50 percent of the business. “By so doing we are able to save TikTok amongst other things, ensure that it remains in the right hands as well as to make it continue saying up. There is no TikTok without approval from the United States of America. In our opinion, it is worth hundreds of billions of dollars – maybe trillions.”

The federal law banning TikTok allows the sitting president to extend Sunday’s deadline by 90 days if a sale is in progress. However, there are no real buyers yet, and ByteDance has stated it will not divest TikTok.
