Young Cancer Warriors Shine at HCG Abdur Razzaque Ansari Survivors’ Meet

Ranchi [India], May 19: On a day marked by deep sentiment, inspiration, and the sharing of unforgettable moments, HCG Abdur Razzaque Ansari Cancer Hospital, Ranchi, hosted its much-awaited Paediatric Survivors’ Meet, on Saturday, May 17, at IMA Bhawan, Morabadi. The gathering celebrated over 18 brave young cancer survivors and their families—each of whom represented a living testament to courage, healing, and the unbeatable human spirit.

The event, which began at 12 Noon, unfolded like a moving tapestry of personal stories, shared memories, and joyful reunions. Children who had once faced serious, life-threatening illnesses stood with quiet pride before an audience of peers, doctors, and well-wishers, to reflect on their journeys—from the moment of diagnosis to the challenges of treatment and the solace of eventual recovery.

Each survivor was felicitated as a token of recognition for enduring the illness, the overwhelming challenges of the treatment and more, for doing so with a level of maturity far beyond their years. Their parents, too, received heartfelt appreciation for being pillars of hope and support through the most trying times.

The event’s theme revolved around empowerment, emotional expression, and building a support community for young survivors. From collaborative art activities to musical sessions and storytelling, every element of the program was designed to bring smiles, create bonds, and remind the children that they are not alone.

Dr. Abhishek Kumar, Consultant – Paediatric Oncology at HCG Abdur Razzaque Ansari Cancer Hospital addressed the gathering, saying: “What you see here today is nothing short of phenomenal. Each child present at this event represents a rare victory—not just over disease, but over fear, pain, and crushing doubt. Celebrating them in this way is a crucial part of their recovery. It aims to remind them, and us, that healing goes far beyond medicine.”

The Survivors’ Meet reflected HCG’s long-standing commitment to holistic cancer care. The hospital’s philosophy emphasizes that treatment doesn’t end when chemotherapy does—it continues through emotional recovery, psychological support, and social reintegration.

Irshad Khan, Chief Operating Officer of HCG Abdur Razzaque Ansari Cancer Hospital, shared:
“We believe healing is a journey, not a destination. Today’s event was about creating a safe, joyful space, where children could see how far they’ve come—and believe in how far they can go. This is our promise to every family we serve.”

Mr. Prateek Jain, Regional Business Head AP & East, Healthcare Global Enterprises Limited, added: “To be here to see these children laughing, dancing, and dreaming again—is deeply humbling. They’ve fought unimaginable battles and are now writing their next chapters. This event is a reminder that cancer is just one part of their story, not the whole of it.”

The day concluded with hugs, group photographs, and a sense of belonging that words could barely capture. The event not only celebrated survivorship but also highlighted the importance of regular follow-ups, emotional well-being, and ongoing community support. Many parents expressed how vital it was for their children to meet others who had walked similar paths—and to experience the thrill of being seen, understood, and uplifted.
