New Delhi (India) October 11: President Donald Trump imposed an additional 100 percent penalty on Beijing on Friday. This intensifies the trade dispute between the United States and China. Additionally, the 79-year-old Republican president announced that the United States would implement "export controls on any and all critical software" starting on November 1.

Trump's Social Media Announcement

Trump said in a lengthy post on Truth Social that China was adopting a "very aggressive stance" on trade by enforcing "large scale export controls" on all of their products starting next month.

Trump wrote, “It has just been learned that China has taken an extraordinarily aggressive position on Trade in sending an extremely hostile letter to the World, stating that they were going to, effective November 1st, 2025, impose large scale Export Controls on virtually every product they make, and some not even made by them. This affects ALL Countries, without exception, and was obviously a plan devised by them years ago. It is absolutely unheard of in International Trade, and a moral disgrace in dealing with other Nations.

Based on the fact that China has taken this unprecedented position, and speaking only for the U.S.A., and not other Nations who were similarly threatened, starting November 1st, 2025 (or sooner, depending on any further actions or changes taken by China), the United States of America will impose a Tariff of 100% on China, over and above any Tariff that they are currently paying. Also on November 1st, we will impose Export Controls on any and all critical software.

It is impossible to believe that China would have taken such an action, but they have, and the rest is history. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Meeting with Xi still on schedule, but future remains uncertain

Trump said he has not canceled his scheduled meeting with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, despite the fact that he has increased taxes on China. However, Trump stated that he would "have to see what happens" when asked by White House reporters if he would lift the additional tariffs.

He said, "No, I haven't cancelled. However, I'm not sure if we'll have it. I'll be there regardless. I would assume we might have it. However, they hit the world with something. It was shocking. Out of the blue, they came up with this whole import-export concept, and nobody knew anything about it."

Tariff in Retaliation of China's Restrictions

Trump responded to Beijing's intention to tighten restrictions on rare earth exports by deciding to put further 100% tariffs on China. The Chinese government said that in order for international companies to transfer the metallic materials overseas, they would now require special approval. Additionally, it said that any requests for exports of commodities used in military applications would be turned down.

Trump stated that the US has had a "very good one" relationship with China for the last six months. This makes the move even more unexpected. The president of the United States also threatened to use America's "monopoly positions" against China.
