75 Jails in UP to Let Inmates Bathe in Holy Water from Maha Kumbh Festival
According to Prison Department officials, there are currently over 90,000 inmates housed in 75 places across the state, including seven central prisons.

To allow prisoners to take part in the Maha Kumbh, the Uttar Pradesh jail administration is organising the shipment of holy water from Prayagraj's Sangam to 75 jails across the state.
The celebration will be held in all of the jails on February 21 from 9.30 to 10 a.m., according to the Office of UP Jail Minister Dara Singh Chauhan.
According to Prison Department officials, there are currently over 90,000 prisoners housed in 75 jails throughout the state, including seven central prisons.
Under the guidance of the jail minister, plans are being made, according to PV Ramasastry, the director general (DG) of prisons.
All of the jails will receive the Sangam's holy water, which will be combined with regular water and kept in a little tank on the premises. After prayers, the officials stated that all of the prisoners were going to take a bath in the water.
On February 21, Minister Chauhan is scheduled to attend a program in Lucknow jail with senior jail workers.
Prison guard Arun Maurya has been sent by the prison administration to get the sacred water from Prayagraj's Sangam, according to Gorakhpur District Jail Jailor AK Kushwaha.
According to him, the "gangajal" would be combined with ordinary water so that prisoners can participate in the Maha Kumbh as well.
Similar facilities will be made for prisoners on February 21, according to Rang Bahadur, Senior Superintendent at Prayagraj's Naini Central Jail.
According to Senior Superintendent Amita Dubey of Prayagraj District Jail, approximately 1,350 inmates are thrilled about the "snan" because it will let them to participate in the major event despite their confinement.
A similar program was arranged for the inmates of the Unnao jail on February 17.
The idea of offering prisoners the opportunity to bathe in the holy water has been discussed for a while, said Unnao Jail Superintendent Pankaj Kumar Singh. On February 21, the jail administration will set up another "snan" for the prisoners, giving them another chance.
On February 26, Prayagraj's Maha Kumbh Mela will come to an end.
