10 militants killed in an encounter with the Security forces in Chandel, Manipur; Operation still ongoing
Security officials said Wednesday night that ten terrorist militants had been shot dead in an encounter with the Assam Rifles in the Chandel area of Manipur.

New Delhi (India) May 15: The Indian Army claimed that an Assam Rifles unit under Spear Corps began the action on Wednesday and that it was still in progress, reacting to specific intelligence about the movement of armed cadres near the New Samtal village in Chandel district, near the Indo-Myanmar border.
According to the Army, when suspected militants opened fire on the forces throughout the operation, the troops swiftly reacted, redeployed, and retaliated in a careful and controlled manner.
They were also found to have a huge stock of weapons and ammunition.
The Eastern Command posted on their X account, "Acting on specific intelligence on the movement of armed cadres near New Samtal village, Khengjoy Tehsil, Chandel District near the Indo-Myanmar border, an Assam Rifles unit under Spear Corps launched an operation on 14 May 2025."
“During the operation, the troops were fired upon by suspected cadres, to which they quickly reacted, redeployed and retaliated in a calibrated and measured manner. In the ensuing firefight, 10 cadres were neutralised and a sizable quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered. Operation is still in progress."
“The operation is still underway… when it gets over, we will be able to share details,” a Kohima-based defence PRO told Thursday morning.
According to police on Thursday, guards also arrested seven terrorists from other Manipur districts who belonged to different banned groups. The districts of Thoubal, Kakching, Bishnupur, and Churachandpur were the places of the arrests.
In an operation last week, Manipur's police and security personnel arrested at least 13 militants. They were accused of carrying out extortion and were "active" members of illegal insurgent organisations.
