Google to Establish India’s First Safety Engineering Centre in Hyderabad

Hyderabad will become the host to India’s first Google Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC), after signing a strategic agreement. Hyderabad marked a significant milestone in cybersecurity innovation with this agreement between Google and the Telangana Government on Wednesday, finalizing the project.

As per the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, Hyderabad will be the first-of-its-kind facility following Tokyo securing the fifth global place after Dublin, Muchin, and Malaga.

A Hub for Cybersecurity Innovation and Research

The GSEC will serve as an international cybersecurity hub, focusing on developing advanced security and online safety products tailored for India. “The GSEC is a specialised international cybersecurity hub that will play a vital role in developing advanced security and online safety products for the Indian context,” the release stated. The centre will also emphasize cutting-edge research, AI-driven security solutions, and collaborations between cybersecurity experts and researchers worldwide.

Boosting Employment and Skills in India

Apart from technological goals, the GASEC hopes to foster skill development, create opportunities, and boost the India’s cybersecurity skills. “The centre will focus on cutting-edge research, AI-driven security solutions, and creating a collaborative platform for leading experts and researchers in cybersecurity. It also aims to foster skill development, boost employment, and enhance cybersecurity capabilities in India,” the statement added. This new project aligns with India’s growing emphasis towards digital safety and innovation.

Hyderabad: A Preferred IT Destination

Hyderabad, already Google’s largest base of employees in India, was chosen for this prestigious project over competing states after a rigorous selection process. The official note highlighted that the GSEC was initially announced on October 3 at the Google for India 2024 Conclave. “We are very proud that Google has chosen Hyderabad for setting up the GSEC. This partnership is a testament to Hyderabad’s standing as a leading IT and innovation hub in the country, and world,” said the Telangana chief minister.

Google’s Global Leadership at the Signing

The partnership was signed in the presence of a global delegation from Google, including CIO Royal Hansen, VP Arijit Sarkar, and other senior leaders like Mangla Seshadri and Apurva Chamaria. Google’s decision to establish GSEC in Hyderabad not only cements the city’s reputation as a thriving tech hub but also signals a significant step in India’s journey towards becoming a global leader in cybersecurity.
