Ahmedabad Plane Crash: TATA Group and Air India to compensate victims with ₹ 1 crore each

The Tata Group and Air India have declared ₹1 crore in compensation for each fatality that happened in the dreadful Air India Flight AI171 tragedy in Ahmedabad.

New Delhi (India) June 13: On Thursday, the Tata Group stated that each person who was killed in the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner tragedy would receive Rs 1 crore in compensation. The plane was travelling from London to Gatwick with 242 passengers, including two pilots and ten crew members.

The Tata Group stated in a post on the social media site "X" that it will pay for the injured parties' medical bills and make sure they get all the support and attention they require. 

The statement by Tata group said, “Tata Group will provide Rs 1 crore to the families of each person who has lost their life in this tragedy. We will also cover the medical expenses of those injured and ensure that they receive all necessary care and support.”

Tata Group has also promised to help restore the BJ Medical College dorm, which was damaged by the plane after the crash. 

The statement by the Tata Group said, “Additionally, we will provide support in the building up of the B J Medical's hostel. We remain steadfast in standing with the affected families and communities during this unimaginable time.” 

Two relief flights for the workers and passengers' families are being organised by Air India. At 11 p.m. on Thursday, one of the flights will depart from Delhi to Ahmedabad and the other will depart from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. 

The chairman of Air India stated that more information will be given once the team had confirmed the facts. He also mentioned that a support team and an emergency centre had been established to inform the victims' families.

Chairman of Tata Group N Chandrasekaran had earlier said, “We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171. No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured.”

Flight AI171, an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, crashed shortly after takeoff today on its way to London Gatwick. The plane was carrying 242 passengers and it crashed in the Meghaninagar area near the airport.

The plane was heavily fuelled for the long-haul flight burst into flames after crashing. Rescue crews, ambulances and fire engines hurried to the area. Three 90-person National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were sent out from Gandhinagar and more teams were on their way from Vadodara.
