Delhi on Heat Alert: IMD Issues Yellow Warning for Next 3 Days

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] April 06: The India Meteorological Department has warned residents of Delhi to prepare for extra hot days. From April 7 to 9, temperatures may touch 42°C. With such extreme weather, people are advised to stay indoors during the afternoon. The warning is marked as “yellow alert,” which means caution is needed. The air feels dry and the roads look blurry because of the heat. Children and old people are advised to drink plenty of water and avoid going out.

Rajasthan and Gujarat Face Even Worse

While Delhi is hot, Rajasthan and Gujarat are even hotter. In places like Saurashtra and Kutch, the heat is much more severe. The weather department has shared that the heatwave here could go on for another 4–5 days. Many areas are already seeing high temperatures. Local people are trying to manage by drinking more water and staying indoors during the day. This time of the year is always tough, but this year it seems worse than usual.

How Other States Are Coping

In states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Maharashtra, the situation is not much different. The Bundelkhand area in Uttar Pradesh is suffering the most. Daytime temperatures are going above 40°C, and nights are not helping either. The weather stays warm even after sunset. Animals and people are both struggling to cope. This part of the country often sees dry summers, but this year’s heat is stretching for longer than expected.

Some States May See Rainfall

While North India is burning, the southern states are expecting rainfall. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka may get heavy showers. The rainfall could come with thunder and lightning. These rains will bring some relief to the people living in these regions. Earlier this week, Chennai saw some rain and cloudy skies. These summer showers are common in coastal areas and are linked to the sea winds and clouds forming over the Bay of Bengal.

Himalayan Regions Prepare for Changes

In the Himalayan areas like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, the weather is expected to change due to a western disturbance. Rain, wind, and even hailstorms might be seen on April 9 and 10. People living in hilly areas are used to fast-changing weather, but strong winds and sudden rain can be dangerous. Local farmers and shepherds are advised to be careful during this time, especially in open fields or while travelling on narrow roads.
