Amid escalating tensions, G7 advises India and Pakistan for “immediate de-escalation”
The foreign ministers of the G7 countries have called for an immediate de-escalation of military tensions between India and Pakistan and have strongly criticised the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22.

New Delhi (India) May 10: The G7 countries—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the high representative of the European Union—issued a statement advising India and Pakistan to exercise the highest possible caution.
"We, the G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and the High Representative of the European Union, strongly condemn the egregious terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 and urge maximum restraint from both India and Pakistan. Further military escalation poses a serious threat to regional stability. We are deeply concerned for the safety of civilians on both sides," the G7 said in a statement.
It was also added that,"We call for immediate de-escalation and encourage both countries to engage in direct dialogue towards a peaceful outcome. We continue to monitor events closely and express our support for a swift and lasting diplomatic resolution."
In light of the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, foreign ministers from the G7 group of countries have called for "immediate de-escalation" and stated the April 22 terror assault on tourists in Pahalgam "egregious.”
The United States, one of the G7 nations, has pushed India and Pakistan to de-escalate during recent days in repeated conversations.
Following a Friday phone conversation between Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the U.S. State Department reported that Rubio expressed U.S. support "in starting constructive talks in order to avoid future conflicts."
Since the end of April, Rubio has also made frequent phone calls to Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Since Wednesday, India and Pakistan have been engaged in regular warfare. In response for the incident on April 22, India reportedly launched strikes within Pakistan that targeted militant sites. Pakistan denies India's accusation that it was responsible for the strike.
