Art, Glamour and Soulful Connections: कलाConnect’s Grand Debut Lights Up Nehru Centre, Mumbai | 30th May – 1st June 2025

Mumbai’s iconic Nehru Centre witnessed a rare and radiant confluence of artistry, patriotism, and stardom this past weekend, as कला Connect’-a visionary initiative by renowned celebrity fashion photographer and creative director Mehul Shah-made a spectacular debut with its inaugural group art exhibition. Held from May 30 to June 1, the three-day event brought together over 100 artists from across India and beyond, transforming the venue into a kaleidoscope of colors, culture, and creativity.

What set this exhibition apart wasn’t just the visual feast on the walls-it was the buzz in the air, the energy of creators meeting their audience, and the unmissable star presence that elevated the experience from an art show to a cultural celebration.

Visitors flowed in by the hundreds each day, making the exhibition one of the most talked-about art events in Mumbai this summer. From the moment guests stepped inside, there was a shared sense that something special was unfolding.

Gracing the exhibition throughout all three days were artist and public figure Onima Kashyap, who also exhibited her work, and model and actress Deepti Pandey. Their continued presence sparked engaging conversations around creative evolution, social consciousness, and the role of public personalities in shaping the modern art ecosystem.

The opening day (May 30) brought cinematic charm as Adi Irani, a veteran actor known for iconic roles in Baazigar and Deewana, mingled with artists and art lovers alike. He was joined by Harshita Malik, actress and model, and interior designer Nandini Nikam, whose design sensibility was visibly inspired by the diverse works on display.

Day two (May 31) witnessed a vibrant surge in footfall-and the arrival of television favoriteNeha Mehta, best known for her long-running role in Taarak Mehta Ka OoltahChashmah. She spent hours appreciating the artworks, interacting with exhibitors, and encouraging many first-time participants.

Adding a deeply patriotic tone to the day was the presence of Group Captain Sanjay Bawale (Indian Air Force), whose admiration for creativity echoed in heartfelt conversations. He was joined by filmmaker Tariq Bhat (Welcome to Kashmir), art collector Anand Manwani, and film producer Ram Agnihotri, who drew beautiful parallels between cinematic storytelling and visual art.

But it was Sunday (June 1) that closed the exhibition on a truly star-studded note. Power couple Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha-actors known for breaking cinematic boundaries-spent meaningful time engaging with artists and expressing admiration for the grassroots creativity on display. Veteran actor Mushtaq Khan brought his signature charm, while playback singer Shruti Rane added a melodic warmth to the afternoon ambiance.

The presence of Lt Col Monish Ahuja (Indian Army) and Commodore Kuldeep Tanksale (Indian Navy) further deepened the patriotic spirit of the event. Their enthusiastic engagement with the artists was a poignant reminder that art and defense both serve the soul of the nation, in different yet profound ways.

While the celebrity attention helped draw crowds, it was ultimately, the diversity and depth of the artwork that left a lasting impression.

From intricate folk traditions to bold contemporary statements, the exhibition showcased a wide spectrum of mediums and styles-each artist bringing their own story, perspective, and passion to the canvas. The creative energy was palpable-not only on the walls but in the conversations sparked among strangers, collectors, and creators.

Reflecting on the event’s success, Mehul Shah shared, “This exhibition was a dream years in the making. कला Connect is not just a platform-it’s a movement to bring visibility to talented artists and encourage meaningful dialogue around art and society. We are thrilled to provide a platform for artists to connect, inspire, and be discovered.”

With its first edition already being hailed as a cultural breakthrough, कला Connect has made a confident, compelling entrance onto India’s art landscape. If the creativity, crowds, and camaraderie seen at Nehru Centre are anything to go by, this is just the beginning of a transformative journey where art, heart, and nation move forward-together.
