BSF intercepts two drug smuggling Pakistani drones near Amritsar, seizes heroin and boosts border drone defences
Two drug-carrying Pakistani drones were successfully intercepted by the Border Security Force (BSF) near Amritsar, India.

New Delhi (India) July 23: In Amritsar on Tuesday afternoon, the Border Security Force (BSF) effectively stopped two Pakistani drones. The drones were carrying drugs along the India-Pakistan border.
Heroin and DJI Mavic 3 drones recovered
Both drones were neutralised and seized by BSF officers near the village of Dhanoe Kalan. They use sophisticated technical countermeasures. The recovered goods include two DJI Mavic 3 Classic drones and two heroin sachets totalling 1.130 kg.
The BSF stated in a press release that the operation's success was due to both the attentiveness of border guards and advanced surveillance technology.
The release said, “These successful recoveries highlight the synergy of robust technical measures and the unwavering alertness of BSF troops in foiling Pakistan-based drug syndicates' designs.”
Drone squadrons approved for BSF
The home ministry authorises the establishment of "drone squadrons" for the Border Security Force (BSF). This happens after strikes by Pakistani drones during Operation Sindoor brought attention to the necessity for a strong counter.
Officials state that the drones will operate from some sensitive posts along the border. This will span from Gujarat to Jammu and Kashmir. The procedures for the "drone squadrons" are still being prepared.
Each sensitive border station is anticipated to have two or three men specially trained in drone operations. The activities will be managed from a command centre being established at the BSF's Chandigarh battalion.
The BSF is looking into the kind of drones it would need. These include kamikaze drones and models for precision attacks and monitoring.
Tarn Taran ops show rising smuggling threat
This recent recovery comes after the BSF carried out two major operations in Tarn Taran, Punjab, on Saturday night.
A search was quickly initiated after alert BSF forces on Saturday. They spotted drone activity close to the India-Pakistan border in Tarn Taran.
During the operation, a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone was recovered from an irrigated area. This happened ahead of the border area close to Khemkaran. The BSF claims that quick thinking and decisive action prevented another effort by smugglers operating in Pakistan to use drones to enter Indian territory.
These operations highlight the ongoing danger presented by smuggling networks based in Pakistan. They try to introduce drugs and weapons into Indian territory. The BSF emphasises its determination to eliminate such threats by means of improved intelligence cooperation, increased monitoring and quick ground action.
