7 movies that were rejected by the Oscars 2024

The 2024 Oscar nominations have been announced, and as expected, Yorgos Lanthimos' "Poor Things," Greta Gerwig's "Barbie," and Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" had a great morning. Following its victories at the Golden Globes and Critic's Choice Awards earlier this season, Christopher Nolan's epic about atomic bombs dominated the field with 13 nominations, solidifying its position as the front-runner for best picture. Numerous highly regarded movies were left out of the Oscar nominations, as is customary on the morning of the nominations. Two of A24's films, "Past Lives" and "The Zone of Interest," were nominated for best pictures, but the studio also saw several other excellent films, including "Priscilla," one of Sofia Coppola's best films to date, and "The Iron Claw," which starred Zac Efron in a performance deserving of recognition. With "Anatomy of a Fall," Neon emerged victorious, but despite receiving positive reviews, its other awards season movies, "Origin" and "Ferrari," tragically fell short of expectations. Even after giving some of their best performances, past Oscar winners Nicolas Cage ("Dream Scenario") and Jessica Chastain ("Memory") were passed over by the Academy. Let's look at these rejected movies The Iron Claw (2023)  Zac Efron’s career-redefining dramatic turn in Sean Durkin’s family wrestling drama “The Iron Claw” was perhaps the film’s best shot at an Oscar nomination this year, but Efron never broke out of his status as a long-shot Oscar dark horse. A biographical sports drama film based on the life of professional wrestler Kevin Von Erich and the Von Erich family. All of us Strangers (2023) A British romantic fantasy film that delves into the relationship between a man and his enigmatic neighbor, as well as the revelation that his parents were still alive thirty years prior to their deaths.Strong feelings were felt for this poignant story of a mature man who meets his parents when he was last with them, especially for Andrew Scott's stunning performance as the hero and Andrew Haigh's adapted script. However, the movie received zero nominations. Air (2023) A biographical sports drama film that chronicles the beginnings of the basketball shoe brand Air Jordan and the story of a Nike employee's attempt to close a deal with rookie player Michael Jordan. Blackberry (2023) A cinematic noir comedy-psychological thriller that chronicles Priscilla's life and her nuanced romance with Elvis Presley. A thousand and One (2023) A movie that centers on the unrepentant and free-spirited Inez, who abducts her foster son Terry, aged six.The film was named a Variety critic’s pick out of Sundance. The review reads: “Rockwell uses the full range of cinematic expressivity to turn a small, often tragic story of raw deals and rash decisions into an admiring portrait of survivorship, determination and resourcefulness.” Priscilla (2023) A movie that delves into the relationship between Elvis Presley and Priscilla Beaulieu, from their initial encounter at a German party to their intricate romantic bond. Saltburn (2023) A black comedy psychological thriller film that focuses on an Oxford University student who becomes fixated with a popular, aristocratic fellow student at his university.
