CBI starts search at Ambani’s house
Around seven in the morning, officials arrive at Ambani's home on Seawind, Cuffe Parade. Sources say that "seven to eight officials" showed up at the location. They have been conducting the search ever since. While the searches are being conducted, Ambani and his family remain at the house.
On the basis of a fraud charge made by State Bank of India (SBI), the CBI files a new FIR against Anil Ambani, his businesses, and others. The Delhi police have filed the FIR.
The agency got search warrants from a special CBI court in Mumbai on Friday. They filed the first information report (FIR) in this regard on Thursday.
The FIR states a complaint on August 18 “regarding the alleged offences of criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal misconduct by accused company M/s Reliance Communication Ltd. and its Director ShrI Anil Ambani, unknown public servants and unknown others”.
SBI marks RCOM and Ambani as fraud
SBI says in its case that Anil Ambani's Reliance Communications Limited (RCOM) had committed a total fraud of Rs 3,073 crore. Anil D. Ambani was among the promoters and accounts that the bank had previously labeled as "fraud" on November 10, 2020. On January 5, 2021, the bank filed a case with the CBI. However, on January 6, 2021, the Delhi High Court issued a "status quo" judgment. This resulted in the complaint being returned.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance Pankaj Chaudhary tells the Lok Sabha on Friday that Reliance Communications Limited (RCOM) and its promoter director, Anil D. Ambani, have now been formally labeled as "fraud" by the State Bank of India.
According to Chaudhary, SBI classified him as a fraud on June 13, 2025. This is in accordance with the bank's internal policy and the Reserve Bank of India's Master Directions on Fraud Risk Management. On July 1, 2025, RCOM's Resolution Professional notified the Bombay Stock Exchange of the classification according to disclosure standards.
Multiple cases under ED and CBI probe
In addition to this case, Anil Ambani is still being investigated in a number of bank fraud cases by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI. Sources claim that his commercial firms have committed more than Rs 17,000 crore in fraud overall.
