12th June 2023, Mumbai: The American singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles has spoken candidly about her struggles with body image and how she felt at major events and on the red carpet. Read on to learn more about what the 44-year-old actress revealed about her recent Tony Award nomination, her desire to “rewire” her brain, and her opinions on losing weight.

Bareilles has been outspoken about her body image problems, her past difficulties with them, and her current efforts to overcome them. On June 10, the singer and actress uploaded a video to her Instagram story in which she discussed going to the 2023 Tony Awards and subsequently the Waitress musical debut. “I am thinking a lot about how I’m preparing for these events, now these two events mean a lot to me, obviously,” she stated in the video.

Bareilles said, “I go on a real bender of body-shaming and hating and trying to lose weight and get small and hit the gym super hard because there’s some kind of sense in myself that if I don’t present in a certain way that I’m not allowed to participate.” She added that she is trying to “rewire her brain” to get rid of this mindset. She stated in the video, “This is old lore, and I no longer ascribe to them.”

“I mean, I actually have to struggle to resist subscribing.” According to the three-time Tony Award nominee, “I can just have the body that I have and go have a f*cking blast.” The Hollywood Reporter quoted Bareilles as saying that she can’t put into words how “shocking and delightful it is” to be a Tony nominee and that it “means the world” to her. Bareilles was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in the musical Into the Woods.

The nomination, she continued, felt like “a huge win for our community.” The pandemic “really gutted our industry… it just feels like we’re barely getting our legs under us here,” Bareilles said. Additionally, the Tony Awards are a crucial component of this industry’s broadcasting, for better or ill. The yearly awards event, she continued, is essential to the programmes, the content that is consumed, and the viewership across the country and abroad.
