New Delhi (India) July 10: India defeated England by six wickets in the fourth game to win their first-ever Women's T20I series. India has also won a T20I series in England for the first time.

The final match of the five-match series will take place on July 12 in Birmingham. India is currently leading the series with 3-1.

In 2006, India defeated England in the only Twenty20 International match played in Derby. The 'Women in Blue' have since lost all of their home and away women's Twenty20 International series matches against England.

CAPTAIN HARMANPREET KAUR ON WIN

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur said, "We are really grateful that we were able to do this (series win). I'm really proud of my team the way we played this series. It was really important to get that momentum and I'm really happy the way we all contributed."

She also added, "We had very good camps back home before coming here. We worked on all our plans, accordingly we have executed everything here. Everybody knew their role and accordingly we all played."

INDIA'S BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE

India's huge victory on Wednesday was largely due to spin. Bowlers Radha Yadav (2/15), Shree Charani (2/30), and Deepti Sharma (1/29) took five wickets. They limited the hosts to a respectable 126 for 7.

Then came a brilliant chase by openers Shafali Verma (32) and Smriti Mandhana (31). They put on a 56-run partnership that set the stage for victory. A memorable evening came to an end when India overtook the target with 18 balls remaining.

The win gives India a much-needed boost as they prepare for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup. The tournament will take place here next year.

Kaur and company have been in blazing form after giving England a record-breaking 97-run loss in the series opener. They also won by 24 runs in Bristol. This was England women's first-ever T201 loss at the stadium. The third T201 was a five-run loss for India.

ENGLAND WON THE TOSS AND CHOOSE TO BAT

England chose to bat first. But they were put under early pressure when Indian spinners Radha and Deepti took wickets of both the openers in the powerplay.

Leading in the absence of the injured Nat Sciver-Brunt, stand-in captain Tammy Beaumont launched a brief counterattack. She scored a 20 off 16 balls that included three boundaries. However, Radha took her wicket. Charani trapped Alice Capsey leg-before five balls later, leaving England struggling at 93 for 5.

India's bowlers were supported by a determined fielding effort. They restricted England to a low total in the middle overs.

Harmanpreet Kaur (26) and Jemimah Rodrigues (24 not out) led India to victory after a period without boundaries between overs 8 and 14.
