India’s Asia Cup 2025 T20I Squad To Be Announced Today; Shubman’s Spot & All-rounder Choice Under Spotlight

New Delhi (India) August 19: Mumbai's bad weather causes a delay in the announcement of India's Asia Cup 2025 squad. In order to reveal the team, India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and men's selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar are to speak together at a news conference at BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Tuesday at 1:30 PM IST.

A news conference is also planned to reveal the India Women's ODI World Cup team at 3:30 PM. But that is probably going to be postponed even more.

First Asia Cup without big three

The new Indian team will be playing in the Asia Cup for the first time without the big three as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja have already retired.

Shubman Gill's inclusion in India's T20I team for the Asia Cup 2025 is the center of attention. But there may be a significant all-rounder missing. Choosing the 15 (or 17) players for the Asia Cup 2025 is a difficult challenge for the selection committee. They have plenty of options. The main challenger is Shreyas Iyer. He has not played Twenty20 Internationals in a while. But holds an incredible IPL season. He leads PBKS to second place. He also impresses with the bat. He scores 604 runs at a strike-rate of 175.07.

Iyer back in focus after IPL

Former cricket player Ravichandran Ashwin thinks that if the selectors choose to select Shreyas Iyer, then there will not be room for India's T20 World Cup-winning all-rounder Shivam Dube in the Asia Cup 2025 squad.

Ashwin believes Shivam Dube has been an essential in India's T20I team for almost two years, is not a good fit for the Asia Cup.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra also supports Shreyas Iyer’s inclusion in the Asia Cup squad. He says, “This was Shreyas Iyer’s best-ever IPL season. We have repeatedly seen that T20 selections are based on IPL performances. We have seen that with Varun Chakaravarthy, Rinku Singh, Harshit Rana, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and everyone. If we see it from that token, Shreyas Iyer deserves to play.”

Bumrah-Arshdeep set to lead pace attack

According to sources, Mohammed Siraj will not be participating in the competition because of his T20 record. His record is not as strong as that of his fellow teammates. Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah are probably going to be the two first-choice pacers. While either Prasidh Krishna or Harshit Rana will probably be selected as the third fast bowler.

The tournament will take place in the United Arab Emirates from September 9–28. It will take place in the T20I format. This will also serve as a crucial warm-up for the teams before the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Eight teams are taking part in the continental tournament. They have been divided into two groups of four each.

Group A includes India, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates and Oman

Group B includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong
